Build A Better Backside

Curves are in and many women are looking for a way to improve the appearance of their backside. Some women want to counter the side effects of aging, weight loss, and other changes to their bodies. Other women just want to enhance their appearance. Whatever your reasons, there are two things you can do to build a better butt.

Change Your Workout

There are plenty of exercises you can do to target the muscles in your butt and improve your appearance. As an added bonus—you’ll get stronger and healthier. You don’t have to completely change your workout. Just add a few new things to the routine.

Three of the simplest exercises to do are stairs, lunges, and squats. All of these can strengthen your muscles and improve your backside.

Running stairs, in particular, will give your glutes a serious workout and you won’t have to give up that calorie burning cardio.

Lunges and squats are a great option for those who want to workout without going to the gym or using equipment. If you want to make them harder, pick up a pair of dumbbells and do shoulder presses, curls, and other lifts while lunging and squatting.

Ask About A Buttock Lift

Exercise is important, but it can only take you so far. If you want to get noticeable results without spending your free time at the gym, ask about a buttock lift. In general, you have two options, the traditional buttock lift and the Brazilian buttock lift.

The traditional buttock lift will remove excess skin, tighten underlying tissues, and re-contour the buttocks, but it won’t add volume.

A Brazilian buttock lift uses fat from other areas of your body to increase the fullness of the buttocks. Liposuction will be used to remove excess fat from other areas of the body such as the thighs and abdomen. The fat will then be purified and injected into the buttocks.

Both procedures come with advantages and can enhance your appearance and boost your confidence. If you’d like to learn more about improving your appearance, schedule a consultation at Ponte Vedra Plastic Surgery.

ThermiTight™

Surgery

Machines that use radio waves or sound energy to tighten loose tissues have been around for a long time. You’ve all heard about these devices in the past, like Thermage, TruSculpt, and Ulthera, but a new device, ThermiTight is now FDA cleared to deliver Radiofrequency energy in a new way and really tighten the loose skin of the face, neck, arms, and abdomen. We can now achieve amazing results that were not possible before with heat energy delivered only to the surface of the skin.

What is ThermiTight™?

ThermiTightis a new FDA approved device that uses radiofrequency energy to heat up the deep layers of the skin from inside the body. Using more controlled and carefully monitored delivery of energy right where it is needed most, allows us to tighten the tissues underneath the skin. Because the heat is not delivered on top of the skin, there is much less discomfort for the patient and superior results are achieved.

How does this work?

After a small volume of anesthetic solution is injected into the area to be treated, the tiny ThermiRF SmartTip thermistor probe is inserted under the skin. The surgeon gently moves the probe to safelyheat the tissues in the treatment area. Skin safety is monitored with Thermal Image Guidanceusing a specialized camera. Most procedures take less than one hour, and can be combined with other procedures, or performed alone with the patient awake. After the procedure, a gentle wrap is applied and the patient may resume normal activities the next day.

Where can this be performed?

This procedure is done as an outpatient, in our state licensed surgery center. One of the most attractive features of this new device is that it can be used in multiple locations on the body, to tighten areas that we were unable to effectively treat before. Now, with a minimally invasive procedure, we can shrink areas like the back of the arms, fatty chin, knees, neck and lower abdomen that would have required a much larger procedure with more downtime. This device is even showing some excellent results with difficult to treat cellulite in the upper thighs.

How is the recovery?

Patients will experience some moderate discomfort after the numbing medicine wears off. They will have oral pain medicine to provide comfort for the first two days. After that, most will not require anything else. There will be some mild bruising and swelling that can last from 1-2 weeks after treatment. Patients will go home with gentle compression over the treated areas and can return to work and normal activities the next day. Results will be evident over 6 weeks to 3 months and will last years!

Collagen and Your Skin

You may have heard that collagen is an important part of your skin, but what exactly is collagen and what does it do?

Collagen is a protein that is found throughout the entire body. It is important part of connective tissue. Connective tissue is one type of tissue in your body. It supports, connects, and separates things in your body.

Collagen is the most abundant protein in your body and it can be found in tendons, ligaments, bones, blood vessels, muscles, cartilage, hair, skin, and many other places in your body.

Because it is so abundant, it plays an important role throughout the body. One of collagen’s jobs is to support your skin. Collagen helps your skin stay firm and maintain elasticity. It also plays a role in tissue development.

When people age, collagen production is reduced. This is one reason that wrinkles become more prominent when you get older. Less collagen means that your skin is thinner and more fragile. Wrinkles will be more noticeable and your skin may be more susceptible to other damage.

While you can’t completely avoid loss of collagen when you get older, you can protect your skin for as long as possible by avoiding UV radiation and toxins. Don’t smoke or use tobacco products, stay inside on bad air days, wear sunscreen whenever you go outside, don’t use tanning beds, and choose clothing that covers your skin. UV radiation and toxins speed up the aging process and result in less collagen production, so avoiding UV rays and harmful chemicals will help you stay looking younger for longer.

There are also cosmetic treatments that can partly counteract the effects of reduced collagen production. Some treatments like Botox injections eliminate the appearance of wrinkles. Other treatments like Juvederm restore lost volume and fill in creases. Some dermal fillers like Radiesse and Scluptra Aesthetic actually stimulate the body’s production of collagen. This can result in gradual improvement in the skin that brings long lasting results.
